What is the next upgrade for my CD WinSPMBT?
Long time player, rebuilding after computer crash. My, purchased, and upgraded? version of WinSPMBT shows as v1012-CD. I have no idea what Upgrade that reflects, please advise as to the next Upgrade. Or should I just starting to upgrade from the Consolidation Patch to V6.0 and up?

Re: What is the next upgrade for my CD WinSPMBT?
Unable to post a screen copy here. I can copy and paste it elsewhere, but not here.
BUT, I think I found my original installation exe back up from the original installation CD.
Version Lines:
WinSPMBT v1012-CD
WinSPWW2 v5.0-CD
So the version WinSPMBT v1012-CD, came off my original CD for SPMBT, but I can find neither original CD all these years later.
I couldn't edit my previous post, but I'll try to delete it.

Re: What is the next upgrade for my CD WinSPMBT?
If you bought them from Shrapnel you will not have an illegal copy but I have no memory of any version for MBT issued as V1012-CD which is why I want to see a screen shot.
It does not have to be the entire screen and it is possible to work within the limitations of the forum to do so but it's also dead simple and free to set up an IMGUR account ( https://imgur.com/ ) and post it there then post the link to it here
That said the entire issue seems to be " What version do I start to upgrade the patches from? "...... when in doubt, patch them all it will not do the game any harm and it only takes a couple extra minutes of DLing ...... AS LONG AS YOU PATCH THEM IN ORDER...... oldest first
The patch page for MBT gives this
winSPMBT V17 Upgrade (2023)
The V17 Patch updates winSPMBT Version 16 to Version 17
Windows v.17: 11.6 MB Download
winSPMBT V16 Upgrade (2022)
The V16 Patch updates winSPMBT Version 10 and up to Version 16
If it were me I would start with winSPMBT V16 Upgrade (2022) then patch with winSPMBT V17 Upgrade (2023) but it will DO NO HARM to start with winSPMBT V10b Consolidation Upgrade (2016) or even ......
winSPMBT: Main Battle Tank Consolidation Patch:
The Consolidation Patch updates winSPMBT to version 6.0.
AS LONG AS YOU PATCH THEM ALL IN ORDER...... oldest first

Re: What is the next upgrade for my CD WinSPMBT?
I think you are reading what is written on the CD rather than the screenshot. My CD has written on it in permanent marker V1.012-CD. But that's not the game version.
I don't know what the version on the initial screen would show if I installed it. I have a vague memory of it being version 6, I recall it wasn't up to date, in fact it was quite out of date. (At present, my (fully updated) installation at the moment is V17.0 extended.)

Re: What is the next upgrade for my CD WinSPMBT?
I have no idea what may have been handwritten on the CD's as I have never handled one but the initial report was the version showing was
v1012-CD
This new report says it's
V1.012-CD
There is a big difference between v1012-CD and V1.012-CD and it's all irrelevant to the ACTUAL version number that appears at the bottom of the screen that shows when the game fully loads and THAT is the version number of your game. NOT what might be written on the CD which for all I know might be Shrapnel's code for the pressing version

Re: What is the next upgrade for my CD WinSPMBT?
I'm getting the same version 'WinSPMBT v1.012-CD'. This is on the installed program. Some back ground, I just saw the new updates for 2023 and installed them (WW2 and MBT). MBT would not open at all (WW2 is fine). So I deleted and reinstalled from the CD disk, and did all the consolidation updates. All were stated as successful. I checked the version and was wondering what the heck. My CD disks have to be over 20 years old. I'm going to re-try all the patches again.

Re: What is the next upgrade for my CD WinSPMBT?
If your original CD is that old then it is very likely to be pointing at the old /program files/... installation path.
This is described in the Game Installation section of the Game Guide, which is right at the start of that document.
To save you having to actually readin the Game Guide (manual):
Quote:
you are running the game under Vista or Windows 7, install the game to a separate Games folder (directory), DO NOT install the game into the Program Files folder (Vista or Windows 7 only. XP and earlier it is OK to install under Program Files). However you will need to remember this new path when installing any patches but be aware that ALL new patches and upgrades default to install to C:\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\WinSPMBT
This new folder must be outside the “Program Files” hierarchy, in order to avoid Vista and Win7's operating system’s attempts to “manage” the game files in what it considers to be a “system” area.
The simplest way to do this would be to edit the default installation location line the older installer uses by removing \Program files, so change this...
C:\Program Files\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\WinSPMBT
to this...
C:\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\WinSPMBT
|
So - once the original installer path is modified, you should have no problems since all modern patches we have on the page use the proper C:\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\WinSPMBT path.
(That should really read Vista and onwards, not just VFista and 7 - all "modern" windows versions in other words, post XP)
