Wonderful, what did they replace them with or did they decide they didn't need MANPADS any longer ?
The Mistral is all they have ATM
Well this didn't take long

Belgian has decided to phase out short range anti-aircraft missiles systems and instead depend on their F-16s and anti-aircraft missile protection provided by the integrated NATO air defense system. Since Belgium is small and surrounded by NATO allies this seems are reasonable decision. This is especially the case as it would be expensive to replace the current Mistral SAM (Surface to Air Missile) system that entered service in the early 1990s. Mistral still works, but it is old. During the last Mistral live-fire training which took place in Estonia during early May 7 out 8 missiles hit their targets. Some of these missiles were from the first 858 missiles ordered back in 1993. While the firing exercise in Estonia went well Belgian revealed that only about 86% of 643 Mistral missiles fired so far had hit their targets.

Re: Infantry Served Weapons and Organization.
That number is probably right in the "ball-park". You must remember BELGUIM operates the original MISTRAL (1) which was fielded in 1988. MISTRAL 2 wasn't fielded until around late 2001/early 2002 (Production was started in 2000.).
https://missiledefenseadvocacy.org/d...issile-system/
The higher probability numbers are driven by statements like the following...
"The Mistral MANPADS has a high kill probability. After firing more than 3 700 missiles of all variants during training it has a success rate of 92-95%. This missile also has increased maneuverability (30G) at extreme speed. This air defense system also boasts increased flexibility during day and night and is deployable in standalone or in coordinated mode. The Mistral is operable in severe weather conditions." from the same ref, they list all the variants.
http://www.military-today.com/missiles/mistral.htm
The deals with the MISTRAL 2...
"Compared to any other low-level air defence missile, Mistral is more reliable and successful. It has a success rate of 93%." again same ref...
https://www.army-technology.com/proj...stral-missile/
At this writing, I'm not sure whether France and the UK got the latest version MISTRAL 3 which has a supposed accuracy rate of 97%.
However I can confirm SERBIA was the first export customer to receive the MISTRAL 3 in JUL 2019 from the ref above.
I actually believe that MISTRAL (1) in it's time, probably did have a higher hit probability in the low 90% area against targets, again, of it's time.
Dons ref points to current time against " smarter" targets of today. So for MISTRAL (1) in todays target environment to score at about 86% is nothing short of " spectacular" and speaks directly to it's effectiveness for a system BELGUIM never updated (Or FRANCE) and that's 32 years old.
Regards,
Pat

Re: Infantry Served Weapons and Organization.
Already being fielded...
https://www.armyrecognition.com/defe...distances.html
Like the weather here has been for the last two weeks plus, feeling a little " ****ty" right now.
However there must be some hope as a mysterious bright object is in the sky of yet unknown origin, making everything seem bright and clear. When I figure out what it is, I'll let you know!?!
Regards,
Pat

Interesting but no in-game effect.
Thanks!

Re: Infantry Served Weapons and Organization.
Looks like Russia's missing regular infantry troops with AK-12 (there's also a new 2023 ed. - https://en.kalashnikovgroup.ru/media...ztsa-2023-goda), new sniper rifles like Orsis T-5000, Lobaev Arms sniper rifles, SVD -> SVCh.
Germany's missing new HK-416A8 (G95) rifles, the US their new flashy 6.8 cal. ones replacing M4 (XM7).

Re: Infantry Served Weapons and Organization.
Some of you will find the info in here interesting
https://www.nammo.com/wp-content/upl...dbook-2023.pdf
The one that caught my eye
Quote:
5.56 mm x 45 DIM TRACER (IR) 4
The infrared (IR) tracer is completely invisible to the naked eye. It can only be seen with Night Vision Devices (NVDs), giving the user clear advantages as a stealth fighter at night. Instant ignition for short combat distances.
"Status Type classified by US Army and United States Marine Corps (Mk301 Mod 0). In service with the US, Swedish, Norwegian and UK defense forces. Combat proven."
|
The advantage of knowing where the rounds are going in the dark and the other side not knowing where they are coming from is HUGE

Re: Infantry Served Weapons and Organization.
What do each of these nations use the Spike ER2 for ?
Countries that use the Spike ER2
Denmark
Netherlands
Poland
Romania
Spain
UK
Israel
The Spike ER2 can be used on land and sea or deployed from Helos
It apparently can be fired from any launcher currently in use that can fire but info seems scarce and I could ASSUME these could supplement existing SPIKE uses in those OOB's or something like this might be a helo only asset....... that is the question......how are they being used
The range issue is actually a moot point as the actual range of the weapon is 100 hexes greater than the max visibility the game can see even on a dead flat map but it would be nice to know how they are being used
