Default 10th Mountain

Hi All

I was going to build a campaign around the US 10th Mountain. What formation do you suggest in the US OOB? Or should I just create some US mountain infantry?

You may have to create the units yourself. The US Army orbat has no ski troops, and only one light infantry unit. SPMBT doesn't have the Mountain infantry class.

You may be right not checked, several countries have mountain troops in their OOB but they may be Rangers or some such. India & some South America come to mind.

US OOB has only 3 or 4 free slots left.

The WW2 mountain class only has benefits on rough and impsassale, so unless all the maps were Monte Cassino type ones then no real benefit would occur.

If it is just going to be a series of regular maps - just use line infantry unless the 10th have some sort of specal sauce? - like say transport units bing BVs or mules (mechanical or Eeyore)

Fallout Re: 10th Mountain

I make some general comments below, to be clear, each BCT below are fully compatible and fully cross trained to perform any mission assigned by higher authority on an equal footing. As the records shows they can fight anywhere but they see themselves as "Winter Warfighters" as well as I touched on with the 1st BCT. Trust me I've been there it's extremely cold and snows a lot up there in that part of N.Y. State. Also it's the first base I ever saw "Tank Crossing" signs along the roads. For the general public they were also associated with "Black Hawk Down" by providing security for the evacuation phase of that op.

As you read through these (Accessed from the "MENU".) you'll note on the right side under the "Big Black Box" are the attached Subordinate Battalions for each listed below..

Their history...
https://home.army.mil/drum/index.php...in-division-li

They are helicopter heavy to include transport/air assault and AH-64D APACHE (Should be transitioned to the AH-64E GUARDIAN by now.)
https://home.army.mil/drum/index.php...nants/10th-CAB

They have their own Divisional Artillery.
https://home.army.mil/drum/index.php...enants/DIVARTY

They have 3 BCT's the 1st (Warrior) is associated by linage with the unit that fought in Italy WWII. "Find a way or make one"
Former Son-in-Law was attached to them (As was my Dad in Italy and later in his 28yr. career.) for many years. Besides the wonderful "Winter Wonderland" of Ft. Drum you will also find them training near Colorado Springs in the Rocky Mountains refresher training in all those lovely winter sports games from Skiing to who can climb up the MOUNTAIN first!?!
https://home.army.mil/drum/index.php...enants/1st-BCT

The 2nd (Commandos) More on the Rapid Deployment side of things generally (They are all really in that mold.) speaking.
https://home.army.mil/drum/index.php...enants/2nd-BCT

The 3rd (Spartans) "Ready Now and Relevant Tomorrow.” Newest BCT stood up in 2004.
https://home.army.mil/drum/index.php...enants/3rd-BCT

SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE ("Mule Skinners" they also trace back to the Italian Campaign of WWII.
https://home.army.mil/drum/index.php...th-Sustainment

Now you have something you can "sink your teeth into", I hope!?!

Regards,
Pat

The 10th at Fort Polk are more of light infantry and I believe Strykers are their main vehicle, been awhile since I was Polk.

Thanks for all your input. I do have a follow on general question. I looked through several OOB at the mountain troops and they seem to be classified as Rangers. Is there any reason to this and why they are not ski troops ec?

DRG will become famous soon enough

Because less problems with impassable terrain crossing and a Hand To Hand combat bonus was deemed more important in MBT that snow terrain abilities

Just a note, I am using CG slots 018 and 019. So that leaves 021 and 023 free.

Lets fill those slots up first.
