Re: Sphere Worlds in Populated systems - Newbie Question
Can you use a Star Destroyer if a sphere world is around the sun?

Re: Sphere Worlds in Populated systems - Newbie Question
You can only destroy stars with a star-destroying component. In game-terms, a ring or sphereworld is not a star; it is a planet. So, you cannot use a star-destroying component to destroy it.

I tried this but you can't create a planet from asteroids unless there is already a star in the system.

Re: Sphere Worlds in Populated systems - Newbie Question
well otehr than starting like this a super tectonic bomb could've blown up the sphere after the planets were made.

Re: Sphere Worlds in Populated systems - Newbie Question
what's the population of a ring world / sphere world? is it always the same or does this number vary?
also, i imagine since it's that big that you can place a lot of facilities there otherwise i wouldn't see a real advantage to build these.
(except for the protection of your sun)

Re: Sphere Worlds in Populated systems - Newbie Question
Advantage to building a sphere/ringworld.
- Lot's of room for facilities
- 150% on all three resource values
- Room for lot's of people, so your production and construction facilities can get tremendous bonuses
- Lot's of cargo room for weapons platforms and fighters.
- Protects your star from star destroying weapons and events
- Cannot be blown up by planet destroying weapons(At leat in the stock game)
- Really, really cool to say you have built one
Disadvantages
- Takes a lot of reasearch to get the tech needed
- Takes a lot of resources and time to build the neccesary ships/bases to construct one
- Usually by the time you get one, you don't need one anymore

That's not what I meant. If someone build a sphereworld in a system with planets, and then the sphereworld was destroyed, the planets would still be there, but no star.
Except that would leave an asteroid field where the sphereworld was, so I guess that's not it.
