Default Bogarus: Drain or Magic Scales?

So I've never played a single game of Dom 3 MP in my life (might take one up at some point if there's a new one starting), but have played a fair bit of SP and all that and wanted to ask people's opinions on this issue.

Now Bogarus certainly has very, very good mages which are incredibly affordable, diverse and efficient. But for you, do you tend to go with Drain, for metagamey 'cheap', if not actually free pretender points (assuming Drain 2, that's +80 points), or instead go for Magic, to make Masters of Names 9rp for 160g and really ramp up their research advantage, as well as making casting less knackering for your battlemages, and reducing the MR of troops in your territory (overall an advantage since your troops are garbage but your mages are great, and often relatively high Astral, which has all kinds of handy but MR-negating abilities)

I basically automatically go for Drain, just because of the incredible efficiency of Bogarussian research even at -1RP, but I'd like to hear any experience people have using Magic scales instead.
