No, your loss of gold is the lack of compounded income gain due to decreased population growth.

why not pumping taxes to 200% then, if you are patrolling anyways? That should net you much more than the additional population loss.

The more tax the more unrest, the more unrest the more patrolling drops population. One population drops below 5000, blood hunting becomes less effective.

I was referring to Fantomen and the high population provinces like capitals, patrolled by free units.

Might be viable for very high pop provinces, I haven´t tried it actually. it might be a good idea if it doesn´t cause the population to drop fast. I just know that the system I presented works well with LA ulm, and maybe some other nation. Like harpies and ma pan for example, don´t know.

My point was that you can have a moderate but stable blood flow and still keep a steadily growing income.

Overtaxation causes population loss, over 3% a turn at 200, so you would completely outpace your growth scales and lose the compounding income and/or ability to maintain a stable population while blood hunting.

not that I think its worth it, but a couple of pretenders increase fertility / decrease unrest so you might be able to recalibrate with them.
