Mercenary Retention Question
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this subject. I'm quite new to D3 and can use all the help I can get.
1. Is there any way to increase the multiplier used to determine your bonus when rehiring mercenary units? (the manual states that your bid counts double.)
2. If the Mercenary Commander survives a battle and some or all of his troops are killed, Does the number of units comanded reset at any time in game?

Re: Mercenary Retention Question
1.) You mean by modding? I know that certain mercs have an affinity for certain nations (i.e. that nation gets an effective gold modifier for that merc) but I don't know if that's moddable.
2.) No. They're dead, Jim. Mercs are meant to be disposable cannon-fodder, although archers last a bit longer.

?!? Does that mean that you can bring back HoF mercs with RoR?
Do they have to have died under your flag?

Re: Mercenary Retention Question
Somewhat tangental, but mercs die off pretty quickly. I realize they're supposed to cannon fodder that conveniently appears in the right place at the right time, but I suppose I'd like a few tougher and more expensive merc companies for the mid and late game. Something on the level of gargoyles, wights, ether warriors, frost fiends, banefire archers, lead by something tough/magical/skilled.

Re: Mercenary Retention Question
IIRC if you RoR a merc he keeps his "merc" flag as a mummy, which mean he won't give back items. Just be warned.
There are some moderately-tough merc companies, like the Celestial Servants and the trolls.

Re: Mercenary Retention Question
Also some very useful mages, such as Obscuro, Mamor and even Dagan (if you happen to lack astral).
