Both things usually don't hurt much enough to make damage equal to the cost of 25 fire gems, 3 air gems and a bunch of gold for lvl 2 priests (who are normally not recruited in indy provinces, so you should recruit the, in castle instead of mages)
Meglobob:
Just casting Flight (now Gift of Flight, which is better as it is more reliable) on elephants makes a lot of fun when rushing with Caelum or stopping the enemy invasions.
Not cost effective in most situations. Medallions of Vengeance and Phoenix Pyre (which SAYS it affects AoE 50 but doesn't) are more likely to wound enemy units than kill them, which means that you'll wound some units and retreat so they can heal up. More likely to be effective on a starving army because disease units don't heal, but still very niche.
