Default Item Modding

Hey there I've been playing around with Dominions for a few months now, and I've just started to tackle modding. So far I figured out monsters and a bit of nation modding, but I'm pretty stumped when it comes to items, and completely lost with spells. What interests me the most right now involves making items that can cast spells, so you can see my problem. I've looked through the threads and I can't seem to find any kind of clues or tutorials that can aid me in this, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Items can't currently cast spells. However, weapon effects can include ranged elemental effects, close-range area-of-effect attacks and can have any existing special weapon ability like disease, paralyze, causing eye-loss, arm-loss, chest wound or crippling the target, etc. Far from perfect, though.

If you meant making an item cast a spell on the unit that wields it - not possible either. I don't remember if you can copy abilities of an existing item. If you can, you could replace special properties of any one item with those of any other, such as make a helmet that gives fire immunity like Ring of Fire, or make a shield that increases attack by 4 and morale by 2 like Ring of the Warrior.

Item modding instructions (such as they are) can be found in the Reorganized Mod Manual (see sig), because I added the commands to that based on material found on the Beta test forum. Some item modding commands exist, but they are not officially documented.

Ahh thanks for the improved manual, that should make things a bit easier. As for the spell casting, I meant making misc items like the Gate Stone casting a ritual spell, but I'm going to assume thats not possible yet either. I'm unsure about copying weapon stats as well because there's nothing in the manual about it, and the selection of effects it gives is quite limited. I guess all we can hope for is more info getting released soon. Anyway, thanks for your time and help.

If you haven't read the FAQ yet, do so. Check the Dom3 DB, that has nearly all the lists you could possibly need.

The Misc items with spell abilities are not possible right now.
