Default Spell Like Attacks and Penetration Items

Hi -- Does anyone know whether or not penetration items, like Spell Focus, improvce spell like attacks like the R'lyeh Mind Blast or Enslave Mind?

Also, how do I know what 'level' those attacks are for the purpose of MR calculations?

I am fairly certain they do not. Giving the Gorgon penetration items does not appear to make the petrification more deadly. I think spell penetration items are only for spells, not effects.

I have to concur with Xietor.

As for the second question. I'm rather confident that the answer is there is no level. If you examine page 86 of your manual... you can simply remove that whole part consisting of 'skill in spell path' (for both caster and target) in the caster vs. target equation.
