Getting the most of LA Ulm in multiplayer.
I am soon playing LA Ulm - The Black Forest in an epically large multiplayer game. I'd ask for as much advice possible about what strategies are worth pursuing and what pretender and SC builds I should consider.
I'd also post my own observations from single-player, which might or might not be accurate. Feel free to correct them.
1)There's little purpose for battlefield mages with LA Ulm. They're too weak to do anything useful accept if you use them in communion. If you use communion then skeleton spamming can be good.
2)Rangers+Pikemen are a good combination, knights are too expensive.
3)Commanders come with different types of weapons but none of that matters since they're just humans.
4)First thing to be researched should be construction for Sanguine Rods to start using blood summons.
5)Vampire Counts aren't all that good for their cost in slaves. (but what do I use them for, then?)
6)Vampires can be set to 'attack rear' and act as kamikaze of sorts. (but is that cost effective?)

Re: Getting the most of LA Ulm in multiplayer.
Do a search for LA ulm on the forums. Myself and someone else(may have been meglobob but im not sure) came up with a bunch of ways to use LA Ulm or more specifically vampire counts(lammashtas probably being my personal favourite).

Re: Getting the most of LA Ulm in multiplayer.
I'm having great fun using the Templars and Hochmeisters in an SP game, but then, I get great fun from using humans, which seems to not be your play style at all, so you probably will prefer the blood vampire thing. Interestingly, you also like the look of rangers and pikemen, while I tend to prefer the shielded infantry for my main body, with some support from the other types.
IIRC, Vampire counts give stronger blood magic, free units, and flying immortals.

Re: Getting the most of LA Ulm in multiplayer.
Of course, Vampire Counts are upkeep-free and can blood-hunt so you can get more Vampire Counts. Once you get one, they snowball in almost the same fashion as clams. They have D2, so they can spam skeletons and/or cast Shadow Blast/Disintegrate, plus they're immortal and fly, so they're a real nightmare inside your dominion.

Immortal skelespam, lammashta calling ect is always fun so with a high dominion pretender they are very nasty and mobile(stealthy, flying, cheap immortals who have the perfect magic for summoning armies in battle)
