Default Poison arrows bug?

Should units attacked by poison arrows take poison damage even if they're not hurt by the actual arrow?

It seems to me that the arrow should have to actually penetrate to get the poison into the target.

The situation:
Androphag archers firing on a squad of Vanherse. Arrows fall among the squad. 2 troops take damage, breaking their glamor. Then on Vanheim's turn, the poison takes effect, damage 3 previously unhurt units, breaking their glamor.

I don't know if the arrows were stopped by shield, protection or mirror image.

It seems counter-intuitive that an arrow bouncing off armor or shield, or passing through a mirror image should still poison the target.

Maybe some poisonous goo splashed off the arrow and into sensitive Vanherse eyes when the arrow hit the shield? Or some toxic vapors flying off the arrow as it passed through a mirror image got inhaled into delicate Vanherse lungs?

think of it like the duel in hamlet... only a scratch of the blade (or arrow,) but the poison is still in the blood

the scratch is just less than 1 hp of damage, in some cases.

I'm willing to not call it a bug, but only because I'm killing some of your uber-expensive Vans in the EA Aran game instead of just auto-dying. Lol!

I mean, Vans are powerful enough. Do they really need to be unstoppable?

YES!

There should be no possible way to stop the Vans - they should be INVINCIBLE!

Or perhaps not...

No, Van shouldn't be invincible, and I've got no problem with the poison cloud type attacks hurting them.

It more obvious with the Van though. With most units, arrows fall among the squad, a little cloud of red numbers rises, then a little cloud of green ones. With glamored troops, you see the glamor break when the poison takes effect, so it's obvious they weren't hurt by the arrow.

Even if we buy Wish's "just a scratch" argument, it breaks my sense of disbelief for protection to make no difference. A knight in full plate is just as likely to be scratched by an arrow (which will almost certainly not hurt him) as a tribesman in a loincloth (who's likely to be skewered)?

I'd much rather see the poison only take effect if damage gets through the protection. Maybe strengthen the poison to make up for it.

At least with the coral weapons, defense can keep you from being hurt. Only shields (or magic) offer any protection from poison arrows.

At least I'm assuming shields work. Can anyone confirm that?
And mirror image?

I can run some tests, but I won't have time for a few days.

I recently had a ninja with poison shurikens attack my protection 14 Khan in a game. He threw every last one he had but never damaged the Khan. Even though the shurikens appeared to land directly in his square, he never took damage and never was poisoned. Shurikens, for reference, do 1 + str damage. Ninjas have a 10 strength. I think a DRN is added in there as well.

Perhaps the poison effect is interacting strangely with mirror image?

Does the Khan have a shield?

Being alone in the square helps too.
