Default game history data?

A conversation on the strategy games newsgroup about Dom2/Dom3 has degenerated into a couple of peoples wishes for game history. Some of their examples have made me think.

I explained that you can already do a type of game history. The --preexec can be used to move scores.html and create a rolling backup of them

Then Philippe Duchon (remember him?) mentioned the game saving .2h files sequentially as an option. I was thinking that this can also be done already using a batch or script file. And I THINK I remember that you can even setup a seperate gamesave directory so that all of the previous games are the only ones showing when you bring up the game using that desktop icon.

I started down the path of recommending that the "<" and ">" keys could load different .2h from in the game if sequential files exist. But then I realised this wouldnt be much better than doing it as just going to the menu and loading a game file. So it can be pretty much done if someone wants to iron out the particulars.

In any case its probably a dead conversation now but I thought it was interesting. Some are still holding out that its a "much needed" feature but I tend to bunch it in with things like file management of gods and saved games, editable music lists, taking notes in game, taking screenshots, printer interface, clocks, alarms, and song lists. It can already be done so having the developer write it into the game just isnt high on my list of requests.
