Actually I wonder if Gold sold more copies than the original?

I heard, recall but cannot confirm that about 5,000 copies of the game were sold. Seems like a low number if you ask me, but then again, who knows. Didn't shrapnel report that they hit the 500k mark in sales? If that were true then they sold around 13,000 copies or so.

Given the core nature of posters over the years I find it hard to believe that THAT many copies of the game were ever sold. I mean it would be great if that many had been sold, but its more realisitic to think that about half that many or less were sold.

I think 13,000 is a realistic number, if not more. 5,000 seems way too low, that is for sure.

Well you only ever get a low percentage of people who buy a game going on the forums for it. With a large chunk of that tech support or gameplay advice. Given the nature of the game, the plethora of competition in the 4X market and the fact it was never retail 5,000 isn't impossibly low.

The revenue figues, well such things are for PR, it's not lying just artistic licence So if you include total revenue and shipping you get a high value, if you take off taxes and shipping you get a low value. It's a niche(ish) product and you want publicity, which would you chose to use?
