Austria OOB part 1
the win version of the game is a definete improvement, however some of the oobs have become a bit weaker, such as the austrian oob.
The following is valid for 1980-92, however in that time there we significant and repeat changes in TO&E and OOB.
Baseline experience is taken as the presently provided level
In most infantry BN type formations, heavy weapons are kept in the 'heavy weapons company', but are always assigned to platoon/company formations on deployment and have been so recorded here.
'Jagdkommando'

- 2 Med Commando squad
- 2 Recce Squad
'GEK Kobra'
(specialist CTU of the Interior Ministry, with 1 Co+ based in Vienna. Very highly regarded internationaly, modeled on GSG-9)
Exp + 18 moral + 10
-Assault Squad ( 4 men)
Stg-77, SMG, SMG, Gernade launcher
-Sniper Team ( 2 men)
Med Sniper Rifle, Stg-77
'Platoon' Deployment: (APC)
-4 Assault Squads
-4 Sniper Teams
3x VBB-type APC
'Honour Gaurd Company'
(1 'special' Co of The Vienna Gaurd BN, duties incl. VVIP protection and gaurding the government in times of war. Their ranks incl. specialist engineer, sniping and AT units)
Exp + 10 moral + 10
- Infantry Squad (8 men)
Stg-77, LMG, LAW, Gernade
- Combat Engineer Squad (6 men)
Stg-77, SMG, Satchel Charge, Gernade Launcher
- Sniper team ( 2 men)

'Platoon' Deployment( motorised - ad hoc formation incl. specialised units)
3 Infantry Squads
1 Engineer Squad
1 AT team
2 Sniper Teams
That's it for the moment. Let me know if there is any interest and I'll provide some more. Other units include:
- 'Gaurd' Company
- 'Mountain' Company
- 'Fortress/Security Company' (Sicherungskompanie_
- 'Recce Company' (motorised)
- 'Milita Company' (Landwehr)

Re: Austria OOB part 1
I'm interested for sure!
Could you give a breakdown of those other formations too?
Thanks,

Re: Austria OOB part 1
Except for the 'recce company' all of the ones you mentioned are absent from the OOB and I'm familiar with none of them.
The Sicherungs and Landwehr formations are especially interesting since in a WP vs NATO conflict with austrian involvement much would fall upon the shoulders of the territorial units. That's what I remember from austrian doctrine of those times at least.

you are certainly right. the problem is that WINSPMT does not model the core of austrian defense very well - obstacles and mines. basically vehicles will just continue to drive over a mined area.
reg. SICHERUNGSKOMPANIE (security/fortress defense)
These units are (were) not composed of inferior troops, rather they are chosen by their close proximity to their mob location and their low chance of future relocation - hence they are mostly local farm boys. Mobilisation for these units is very fast. Under a state of pre-warning, core border units could be manned in a matter of hours, 12 at the max.
There are two main types of these units. One, the 'fortress bound' units manned and supported the over 60 individual fortress positions. Second, the 'object' orientated units (usually platoon sized elements) that were basically light infantry set to gaurd bridges and other critical infrastructure.
i have a bit of a beef with the inacuacy of some of the fortress guns, but then again i have a major beef with the fact that a stg-77 (steyer aug) is exactly as inefficent as an ak47

- 3 anti-personel bunkers (MGs etc.)
- 3 observer/recce teams (standard 3 man w. sniper and jeep)

- 1 20mm AA gun (only some units)

Security Squad Squad ( 8 men)
-Stg57, LMG, Gernade
Security AT team 9(2men)
-Carl Gustav, Stg 57

Re: Austria OOB part 1
Reconnaissance Company (Aufklaerungskompanie)
(There are two BN of Recces, eached attached directly to Corps command. Their job is not only to provide information on enemy movement but als screen and delay enemy advanced elements. They are thus more like 'cavalry' units than traditional recce.)

'Scout' Squad (3 man)
- Med Sniper Rifle, Stg-77, Gernade
