Re: OT: Spread Firefox
Why I hate installing new software.
So I install Firefox. One of the first things I do then is try to call up my email client. In all its wisdom, Firefox calls up Outlook Express. I have never used that client and never intend to! Naturally I cannot find a way to get it to call Netscape Messenger. In modern computer parlance, this is called "user friendly".
Fyron, any idea how I can get it to call up my email client and not this default client?

Yes it is. Now that I've called up Messenger separately, it seems to be working. I will try closing both programs and start again to see if it this is a permanent change.
Edit: And indeed it is! Seems Microsoft runs back to momma at the drop of a hint.

Type in firefox address bar: "about fig" (without quotes). Enter.
Locate string "network.protocol-handler.external.mailto". It's set to "false" by default. Set it to true (double click on the string - type "true").
Close FF. Launch Messenger, and set this mail client as default one.
Should work, although I don't guarantee.

Re: OT: Spread Firefox
Firefox is a real nice browser. IE is improved with SP2, but is still target #1 for the a$$ wipes that write exploits. Still have to keep IE, there are a lot of things that it will do that Firefox won't.

Re: OT: Spread Firefox
Been using it since .6...i'm not sure I could work on a computer without Firefox anymore. The built in popup blocking and adblock extension makes my browsing nearly ad free..and tabbed windows are just too damned convenient to be given up.
I've tried Opera and MyIE but both of those are too bloated or have funky interfaces and neither one has an "adblock" extension that I ever saw. Also, neither of those is free, you have to pay to get rid of the built-in ads of their "free" Versions...Firefox is and always will be free

Re: OT: Spread Firefox
MyIE2 has adblock integrated along with it's popup block. And it is free to download, and it doesn't have any ads in it that I recall. But, when it comes down to it, it's only a front end to Internet Explorer, so all the same security issues and standard complience is still there. Firefox has now surpassed it in functionality and stability, so it is the best choice. Pretty much the only thing I miss from MyIE2 was the mouse gestures, but there's a plugin for Firefox for that now (and I've gotten used to not using them, and whenever someone else uses my computer the gestures confuse the hell out of 'em for some reason).

Re: OT: Spread Firefox
Ok, let's say I get Firefox or another similar program. How do I set it up so I can dial my server? When I set IE up, they talked me through it over the phone. Not sure if I can replicate that with a new program. How easy is it to access your server?

Re: OT: Spread Firefox
Since it was already set up for IE, it should just work for Firefox. The dialup settings are within Windows itself, so Firefox will look for connection preferences, see you have a dialup connection, and use that like normal. If it doesn't work like that, you still have IE, so you can post here with any problems, should there be any (I doubt there will be).
