Default Sound FX

Strange things started happening when I switched the sounds around (changed existing ones) - Now the game won't load past 30% at the 'louding sound effects' section.

Is there a checksum somewhere that prevents using different sounds? I put two in, and they worked great. I added one more, and now it won't load.

It won't even load now that I've gone in and undone *all* of the changes I made for the first sounds as well. I'm back to the original files!

Good lord I have no idea what I've managed to do. After having problems with changing sound effects I reset everything back to the way it was... And nothing works anymore, it still crashes at 30% while loading sound effects.

Unable to load game file 4.map' (I have changed NONE of the maps, save-file maps, nor done anything with the maps directory or maps themselves)

Access Violation at address 0053527E in module "Starfury.exe". Read of address FFFFFFFC

And when trying to start a new game I get the following error:
Assertion failure (C\myvb\starfury\pgms\common\DSWaveFiles.pas line 200) This directory and file does not even appear to exist on my machine, nor in the registry.

I will attempt uninstalling and reinstalling the game (yet again) to see if that helps.

[Edit]

What the absolute hell??? I've uninstalled the entire game, wiped the directory after backing up my work, and reinstalled from scratch, and now the only games I can successfully start are the core missions. Not even the P&N mods, unaltered, will load!!!! The game crashes to the main menu before it even gets to the point of loading maps!!

HELP!!! WTF is going on??? HELP!!!!

Sounds like you need to reinstall to fix it, then start again...

I uninstalled, wiped the entire directory, dug through the registry and yanked out all referances to SF, Malfador, et al, reinstalled, patched... and starting a new game using the unmodded missions works, but using the P&N mod causes a crash that requires a hard shut down and reboot of my system just to get out of (no, windowed mode does not work at all). MY mod does not even get past the 'loading sound effects' portion before crashing out.

Do you have the latest drivers for your sound and video cards installed? How about DirectX?

..

You know, given all the issues you're having I'm starting to suspect Starfury and your machine just can't play nice.

Everything played perfectly fine, aside from the expected glitches that arise when tinkering.
But when I started tinkering with the sound files, everything went to hell in a handbasket, and I'm still trying to convince the wolf to give the basket back...
That's too bad, too, because I had some really nice sounds going for a while there.

Latest updates on all hardware.

P4 2.8g
MSI MB
512MB 400mhz DDR RAM
175G HDs (no RAID)
SB Audigy 2 Plat
Radeon 7500

Other than it not wanting to run in windowed mode, I had no real problems before because of the game itself, they were all resulting from my altering the game files.
This new problem I am not sure about. :/

Hey... ah, I just checked something in my files...

Is there a 'maximum' speed for ships in the game?

I've noticed that fighters max out at 1.5 (1500), so I've been adjusting my other ship hulls to be able to come closer to that (1200 peak ATM with the lightest hulls).
