all of a sudden keeps crashing upon host !?
This is the first time I have ever had any crash with the game whatsoever.
I have been playing SP, and in round 79. There is only one opponent left, and as I go to storm his castle, the game crashes when I hit host. It does not hang or otherwise screw up the computer.
Playing on Win2000, PIII 1000 MhZ with 512 RAM.
I cant think of why it should crash -- anyone know what I can do?
thank you
EDIT: I just checked by taking the game folder and putting it onto my laptop and checking there. It is a win98 pIII, and it crashed there too. The game just ends, but otherwise no system problems occurred.

Re: all of a sudden keeps crashing upon host !?
I have had games crashing upon hosting too... Most notably, a World War game playing Ulm, on turn 41. I put it to "too many units" (Ermor had been accumulating a LOT of units, according to the score graphs). But that does not seem to be your problem ?

Sounds like an in-game error. Ive gotten those in the past. The game tries to do xxxx to yyyy but yyyy isnt there or something like that.
Things like that are hard to find all of them without years of playtesting.
Please zip up the entire diretory of that game. Like if its called MyGame then zip the dominions2/MyGame directory and send it to info@ over at the illwinter.com site. They will be able to include a small check for that situation so it can be included in the next patch.

Re: all of a sudden keeps crashing upon host !?
If it's army size, that really should be put in the FAQ's or something. Keeps popping up every few days. The crash occurs when there is a very large army (500+) about to do battle. Try changing your turn to something else besides storming the castle (or send in fewer units) and see what happens.

Ok will do that, thanks.
It may be the size of the army or armies, they are very big. I will try to get them to do something else. But I will also send it in, because it seems to be a bug. thanks

Current MP game of mine saw a 200 vs 800 battle, and turn hosted without problems.
The sight of the armies ready to clash was epic!

Re: all of a sudden keeps crashing upon host !?
200 vs 800 is only 1000. My Ermor was REALLY running Amok. Going by the graphs, it had around 10000 troops at the time of the crash...
I don't think I kept the save, or I would have sent it; I was trying to prove to myself I could survive with Ulm and 16 Impossible AI in the World War scenario. I had to alter my usual tactics a lot, but by turn 40 I had taken down Man and Vanheim, giving me the highest income, the second army, decent research, secure borders, and a sense of accomplishment...

Yes Ermor is truly a terror for whatever game is played. I usually leave him with a setting of normal and the others with difficult or impossible... yet Ermor does an amazing job of crushing them still.

Ermor has a number of advantages against the AIs. First, AIs can't cope with the fact that Ermor's dominion burninates the countryside, making it rather useless: So when they fight Ermor, all they take is worthless land, their troops starve, and then a mass of Ermor reinforcements rolls over them.
Secondly, the AI doesn't know how to stockpile huge numbers of priests, or perform attacks like hit-and-run priestings. They'll instead continue to try to use normal units, and take massive, crippling losses, win or lose.
Finally, on the raw magical power level, an Ermor god gets more points to play with than anyone else already, since Ermor can take practically all of the bad scales with no effect, then use it to pump their powers. Impossible simply gives the AIs more points to play with....but they still have to purchase scales, whereas Ermor doesn't.
