Default I\'m not getting the research points I think I should be....

In the game I'm currently playing, I had to scrap a handful of research centers on the first world I had colonized (in order to build mineral mining facilities) but I figured that since I was building plenty of research centers elsewhere I wouldn't even notice. On the powergraph, my research went DOWN, and when I looked into things further, I noticed that the number of research points that I had to work with was exactly equal to the research points my homeworld was producing! I went to the colonies screen, and 4 or 5 other worlds SAID they were producing research points, but those points weren't getting to me. I hit "end turn" a couple of times, and my research points went up, but not up to the total of the "research points" column on the colonies screen.

So do research facilities have a delay between being built and actually doing anything for you? If so, how long is this delay and is there anything I can do to make it shorter (and why isn't this delay reflected in the colonies screen)? If not, WHAT IS GOING ON?

(And do the same rules apply to intelligence centers?)

Thank you for any enlightenment you can provide, as I'm very confused.

Umber,

sounds like you didn't build spaceports on your colonies in other systems. Unless you have the racial trait of natureal merchents you need a spaceport in each sector, NOT PLANET, to transport their production to the homeworld.

I know I need spaceports to transport minerals, organics and radioactives. Do I also need spaceports to "transport" research and intelligence? If so, it's news to me. And Seawolf, you said "sector" but I'm almost positive you meant "system" when you were describing the generalities of how spaceports work....

I almost never build spaceports in a system unless I'm going to have a resource (minerals/organics/radioactives) producing planet in a system. If you need spaceports to "transport" research, you'd think my research production would have been orders of magnitude too low, and I don't recall noticing anything like that.

Anyone else agree with Seawolf and/or have another theory?

Umber,

You right I meant system, but I 99.99999% positive you need a spaceport to send intel and research to your empire. If you research was equal to your home world production it would seem to bear that out. Suggest you save game, build a spaceport and see what happens. if it works continue. if not just restart the game.

You definitely do need a space port for research points to be "transported". I was recently playing a new game and setting up my first out-of-the-homesystem colony. It was a research center and I decided to see what happened if I left out the space port. The results were that none of the RPs generated in that system were added to the empiral total, until I went back and built that space port, of course!

I can only assume this applies to intelligence points as well.

Hmm, in my game, I was getting zero intel points. I quit the game and reloaded, and the numbers worked.

For research points, I have plenty to spare and not a spaceport in sight on my research planets. In fact, research faclities is about the only use I have for those one faclility planets.

True enough with 1 facilty planets. But to be getting the points means you simply have the spaceport on another planet in the system as you need only one per system. BTW, the manual such as it is, indicates that a spaceport is required to receive all resources including intell and research points.
