Default Mines, Cloaking, Stars, and the AI

Heya...

I've discovered the AI still isn't too bright. Like most, I mine all of my warp points. Heavily. I had an AI empire keep trying to go through the same Warp point for an entire game, 4 hours worth of real time, and it never once created a mine sweeper. It just kept plowing into my mines, losing ships, and I kept putting more mines there. I certainly don't mind it didn't get some mine sweepers, but tis a tad silly for the AI not to realize it would be the only way to get through.

I played a game with max tech level. I made some "Star Destroyers". Light Cruiser Hull, computer, cloaking device, reactor, max engines, and the star destroying torpedo. The AI had no cloaking detecting satillites. I cloaked my ships into 6 systems, went to the the star, decloaked, destroyed the star and system.. my Empire won in the amount of time it took to build the ships. I did notice one of the AI empires destroy a star too, so watch out.

And this one is just a bit off kelter... my homeworld, Huju II, Gas Giant, Huge. The quote: "Tiny planet inhabited by water consuming microbes." I'm sorry, but a Huge Gas Giant isn't tiny.

Hmm, you know, the AI might not have had the tech for mine sweepers. You need to have both Construction and Mine tech and they don't come all that cheap. Who knows, but maybe it was working on it while it tried getting past your blockades. Still not to bright to scrap all those ships trying though . . .

If the AI were smart (0xymoron?) it would take an alternative strategy until it could research mine sweepers: build ships full of armor! These would at least absorb huge amounts of damage and deplete the mine field faster.
