Splinter empire surrenders....to 2 empires!

I just looked at one of my games. A splinter empire (you know, one of those empires named after which ever system the planet is in when it rebels) surrendered to 2 different empires at once. One of them was the empire the parent empire was at war with, so I assumed he used intelligence to make the splinter break off. The other though is my enemy. Since a Splinter empire is only 1 planet (I assume) how can they surrender to 2 other empires at once and how do they share, do they get half the planet each.

Winner takes all. It is either random or the empire with the lowest player number.

We had such an incident in RTH1 where a large empire surrendered to me and another player at the same turn. I got nothing

I can see how this could happen if two empires send 'demand surrender' Messages in the same turn. This is obviously caused by a lack of 'consistentcy checks' in the game, just like the trade exploits that had to be fixed where you could trade the same stuff to multiple AIs and cheat them. I would expect that the first empire to get a surrender gets everything, and any further empires get nothing. It's probably a simple tweak for MM to do if someone pointed it out to him. Sounds like a fair number of goofs like this are building up. Maybe we can get 'one more' patch after all.

goes to the lowest player number. i have seen it done with multiple players demanding the surrender of an AI, and with PPPs. though the PPPs have some chance of failure, so they are not a good example.

Well, if I was the player with the "higher number", I might not think it was unimportant...
