I voted for battlecruiser, although it's probably not the most effective ship in the standard game.

Battleships are the most effective overall.

Yeah, I remember one or two others. 
But I voted for battleship. Just because they got a nice size for a good mix of weapons and so forth. In the early game I like LCs the best though. Still only need 1 life support and CQ, and they can have the large mount.

Although I think the LC is the best hull for the same reasons that Ragnarok wrote, I voted for the DN.
Why?
Because think the more easy way to defeat a good DN fleet, is using another DN fleet....
