Blockade, what does it affect?
Blockade, what does it affect?
Probably, the best way to ask the question is by way of hypothesis.
Say we have 5 planets, A,B,C,D,E. Planet A is blockaded and cannot have access to the empires global resources. My questions are:
1) Does Planet A have access to resouces which it produces? For example, say it capable of producing enough resources on its own (planet A) to fund mines. Can it do so?
2) Do the other planets have access to the empires global resources (but not planet A as it is blockaded)?
3) Would the fact that planet A is the empires home planet make any difference to the answer to the above two questions?
Some of these questions may appear to be self-evident (such as #2 above), but I just want to make sure I got it right.

Re: Blockade, what does it affect?
A blockaded planet does not produce any resources (or research and intel). The resources it would have made are not added to the global resource pool.
The system-wide abilities of facilities on a blockaded planet still function properly.
It is still able to construct things. It uses resources out of the global pool to do so.
The HW is just like any other planet.
In addition, a blockaded planet is likely to become angrier, because there is a larger happiness penalty for enemy ships in the same sector as a planet than for enemy ships in the same system.

Re: Blockade, what does it affect?
Doesn't a blockaded space port stop cut off the entire system? Or am I imagining that?

Dogscoff: Yes, it does. That's what makes Natural Merchants worth it's weight in gold.

Re: Blockade, what does it affect?
So, if I understand the answers correctly:
1) A blockaded planet is prevented from contributing to the empires global pool of minerals, organics, radioactives, research points and intel points.
2) Except for
a) its inability to contribute to the empires global pool and
b) the effect of enemy ships has on its happiness,
a blockaded planet can still function normally. In other word, it can still draw on the empire's global pool to construct anything.
3) If the blockaded planet has the only space port in the planetary system and the Empire does not have Natural Merchant, then all the other planets in that system are prevented from contributing to the empires global pool.
Would this be an accurate assessment?

Re: Blockade, what does it affect?
Yea, I think that pretty much sums it up.
