M6 Heavy Tank Icon set 1.1
Here is the US M6 Heavy Tank icon set. The first true US heavy tank. It was produced in limited numbers but never sent to the front lines for combat. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. I added the M6A2E1 to the set.

It was actually proposed to send a variant of it to combat; I have scans somewhere of the correspondence between Eisenhower and higher command offering him modified M6s with more armor and a new turret with an even bigger gun (M6A2E1)

Re: M6 Heavy Tank Icon set 1.0
Record of Army Ordnance, R&D: Heavy and Assault Tanks by Charles A. Wright dated 10 July 1945 says:
Quote:
Realizing that a heavy tank mounting a gun having a great penetrative power would be needed as our troops advanced further into German defenses, the Chief, Research & Development Service, in August 1944 proposed to the Commanding General, Army Service Forces, that fifteen of the available tanks be modernized and armed with the hi-velocity 105-mm gun. It was estimated that if immediate authorization were given to this project, the tank, with sufficient spare parts, could be made availaole in 90 days.
General Eisenhower was contacted as to his views on such a tank. On 18 August 1944, he cabled: "We do not want at this time the 15 tanks M6 that were offered, as they are not considered practicable for use in this theatre now."

Re: M6 Heavy Tank Icon set 1.0
Oh yeah, the M6A2E1! Forgot about that thing. Considering I am about to start the T29, I should probably build a M6A2E1 first and add it to this set. Thank you for the reminder Mark.
But, like I posted, never sent to the front lines.
You like the set?

The set's pretty good. I can't wait to see your other heavies. I tried making some heavies long ago, but they were pretty drab.

Re: M6 Heavy Tank Icon set 1.0
We've had prior M6 Heavy tanks, but they're unattributable; either due to being done by someone whose name was lost to the mists of time; or being done for SPWAW Enhanced (Not familiar with the icons over there, and who did what over there).

Re: M6 Heavy Tank Icon set 1.0
I added the M6A2E1 to the set. The updated M6 Heavy Tank Icon set 1.1.zip file is at the beginning of this thread.
