Counter-Counter Battery Fire?
I am play SaSTroop's Vistula Crossing scenario and just had something very odd happen.
One of my off board arty units, which had not yet arrived as a reinforcement, counter battery fired against a Russian off board arty unit.
At the end of the turn Russian off board units counter battery fired against my arty unit which had not yet arrived as a reinforcement, damaging it severely.
Is this supposed to happen?

Re: Counter-Counter Battery Fire?
Guessing thats a case of the reinforcment still doing a counter battery check despite the fact its not under your control yet.
I think this has happened to me before, probably not supposed to but see no issue with it. Somebody called the fire & you got lucky because its a priority target & got the gun assigned.
The other side counter battery firing is just them doing so as normal legit target it was detected when it fired unfortunatly.

Re: Counter-Counter Battery Fire?
Reinforcements can do counter-battery when not yet under your control.
I think someone used this effect in a scenario to have guns the player could not use on map, but did fire CB, as divisional or higher command level guns. He had them due to arrive post the game ending.

Re: Counter-Counter Battery Fire?
I very intentionally often leave a battery (or half of one) set as a reinforcement for all, or most, of the length of the scenarios I design specifically so it will perform counterbattery fire.
As Mobhack said, this represents higher echelon assets not under direct player control.

Re: Counter-Counter Battery Fire?
Reinforcement or not...if given a scenario and the designer has given all FG's to me at onset of game play, I try to set a battery or some formation, at least a quarter, aside for CB fires.

Re: Counter-Counter Battery Fire?
I have had units not yet under my control counter battery fire but this is the first time I have had them receive return fire after doing so.

Re: Counter-Counter Battery Fire?
CB firing batteries can receive a reply from others - its just that its a very rare event.
