Which Way Are We Going?

In the original Rogue and most other roguelikes, one is venturing down, typically diving down into a dungeon.

But which way are we going in Approaching Infinity? Down doesn't feel right; neither does up; neigher really do any of the lateral directions.

I've decided to imagine that we're starting from the relatively uncivilized galactic fringe and are heading coreward towards higher technology.

But to be honest, I had just assumed “onwards” and left it at that.

In my mind's eye we're following the spiral arm inwards.
