Default Velos

Can we please have this for Greece in the next update?

http://www.haf.gr/en/mission/weapons/velos.asp

Skyguard is in the game for Greece, but lacks a few things like the four twin 35mm OERLIKON guns.

Default Re: Velos

done but according to that the whole systems been in place since 1982 so unit 184 either has a wrong start date or something else came before it.

Let me know what you find out..

The only information I can find now is an official press release by Rheinmetall about a recent upgrade of the greek system (september 2008). My guess is that the 184 date is either completely wrong or there was an upgrade at the time. I don't know anything more at this time.

According to Jane’s ‘Land-Based Air Defence’ Velos (with quote “12 Skyguard fire-control systems, 20 quadruple RIM-7M missile launchers, 280 missiles, 44 GDF-003 guns and four Giraffe radar systems”) was quote “delivered from 1984.”

Velos seems to be used by HAF rather than the Hellenic Army – as far as I can tell. I think it might be used to protect Greece’s main airbases.

Some photos of Velos and other Greek air defence systems:

Soo, greek military has Mistrals? I didn't know that.
As for Velos being used only by HAF, I don't know how much accurate that is. It's possible that the HAF bought them, but used under directions of the Army. Not the only time that that would happen. For example (just woke up so mind is a bit misty), IIRC the P3C Orions were bought by the HAF, operated by HAF officers, belong to the HAF organization, but 100% controlled by the Navy and only that.
IIRC that is.

I reckon the Mistrals on the website are from the Greek Cypriot military. The Greek guy has them on his site as well.

Maybe. Jane’s International Defence Review (May 1999) claimed that the HAF purchased Velos “for the protection of airfields and other first-line units of the HAF.” I wouldn’t be surprised if the HAF controls the HAF Velos batteries at HAF airbases.
