Fire sites underwater?
(this may be a stupid question) Is it worth casting augury on water provinces? Do fire sites exist at all underwater, do they have a reduced probability of showing up, or is it just like any other province?

Re: Fire sites underwater?
There are several fire sites underwater. The frequency is less than on land however. If possible search with voice of tiamat (that searches all elemental paths and can only be cast on an underwater province).

Are you sure about this Evilhomer? I'll readily concede I have far less underwater experience than you have, my Perpetuality game with Oceania being the first time ever I play an underwater nation, but my experience seems to be you get ridiculous amounts of nature/earth sites underwater, quite a lot of fire (on a par or slightly above what you get on land), significantly reduced quantities of water/death/astral, and almost no air. Also, there seem to be less 'valuable' sites underwater.

Re: Fire sites underwater?
yeah, I have noticed you had alot of fire sites . In my water nation games I seem to usually get a good income of water, nature and earth. An average income of death and astral. And a low income of air and fire.

Low on water is odd, though the low level of astral/death migh be explained by a lack of astral/death mages for EA Oceania maybe ? I only have 4 games of playing underwater nations into the late game so I do not have that much statistic, so I cannot say for sure your observation is wrong.

I agree in full on this. No really cool underwater sites adding nice indie mages and such (those that excist usually gives water, something water nations tend to have). Also so far I have never found an UW site giving any bonus in the various magic paths either. In compensation water nations get the excellent spell "voice of tiamat".

Re: Fire sites underwater?
It might be my experience with late age magic site rarity + the fact that they added a lot of new sites in 3.10...
But in my LE Atlantis game (3.08), it wasn't worth searching underwater for death sites. I could expect one, maybe two sunken ships in all the seas. I have to keep in mind it might be different in 3.10.

Re: Fire sites underwater?
I've noticed lots of earth sites underwater compared to others (apart from water, obviously).
Incidentally, is the distribution of gem sites equal overall? I ask because in several SP games and the one MP game I've played, air sites seem to be very thin on the ground compared to other elements.

Re: Fire sites underwater?
For the fun of it I counted the death income from water provinces in the late game perpetuality, where I play Rlyeh. I have searched maybe 60-65 of those provinces with death at level 9. My total income from water provinces in death gems are 21 (this game was created during the 3.08 time I belive). If it is worth searching those water provinces ?
Cost to search: 60+*3=180+ gems
Total income hard to estimate since I didn't start with max income, but approximatly - at turn 85 now)=60*21=1200+
Generally speaking, search for sites even underwater if you can.

Re: Fire sites underwater?
A quick search through the Dom3DB showed me only one underwater fire site, "Gorge of Glowing Fish".
I searched for the mask 32 which IIRC is "only underwater", so I probably missed fire sites that are underwater as well as on land (if there are any).

Agreed.

I found the Arcane Gateway (-20%Conj bonus +1S) and Water Solstice (-50%Ench. + 4W2S) both in the same water province in my last game. Excluding Blood obviously, I don't think most of the path bonus sites are restricted to land only, but I haven't looked.
