Scallywag: Lair of the Medusa from Chronic Reality and Shrapnel Games is one of the most...unique titles I have seen in long time. This game makes no pretenses about being anything that it is not. It calls itself a hack N slash dungeon crawl and it is just that. But then again it can be so much more.

Out of Eight highlights:
The highlight of the graphics is the lighting effect from your lamp: it looks good and is an integral part of the gameplay, not just a bell or whistle. -and- Scallywag also features some of the best editing tools I�ve seen since Europa Universalis III. All of the files are simple text entries that are used to generate each of the levels. That means anyone can come in and change a lot of the settings without having an extensive modding background. -and- Overall, Scallywag is a good RPG that offers enough replay value through its random and custom elements to make it a notable title.

Final rating is 6 out of 8, which by his definition means "Buy it if you like the genre".

A new review! In the magazine Knights of the Dinner Table isse #134, Rick Moscatello says of Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa:

"The old-school style artwork on the box doesn't mislead: this is a classic hack and slash solo dungeon crawl, along the lines of such classics as Nethack and Rogue..."
