Default Scanning technologies

In a game I'm now playing (Space Empires IV), I'm really coming up against cloaked vessels for the first time, and am not sure how to counter.

Are there differences in the different types of scanning technologies (i.e psychic vs. gravatic, etc.?) What is the meaning of active vs. passive scanning? Can somebody summarize how it all works?

All of the scanning techs do the same thing, they just do it a different way. Unless you have a racial trait that incules it's own scanners, the quickest scanners to research are the HyperOptics.

It should be noted that you only need to beat one type of cloaking to see the enemy.

In stock the cloaking devices have the same power level in all 5 types, and a level X sensor component will beat a level X cloak component.
