Default Ship components that generate research and intel

I've been trying for months now to make components that generate research points. I wanted to have a sort of science vessel. I think it would be cool to do this with intel point as well, but I can't get it to actually work in the game. I can make the components just fine, but they don't actually seem to make a difference---just dead weight. If it isn't possible, I'd like to know. If it is, please help me out fixing it. Thanks.

I don't think it will work. I think research points are hard coded to be only generated by a facility. It's a great idea though - I hope you find a way to do it.

By the way, have you checked out the Spoogy Federation website?

It's good lots of fun stuff!

Except for a few exceptions, it seems the abilities in facilities and components do not crossover. Unless you already see a component that has a facility-type ability, it is best to assume that you can't make a component act like a facility or vice-versa.

I don't think they crossover either. For example, I once tried making a weapons platform a medical facility by equipping it with a medical bay - it didn't seem to work at preventing plagues.

Like everyone else said - only certain abilities cross-over. My first mod back in December added research components for "research" vessels and added a small amounto f intel points from recon sats (seemed logical), but alas they did not and still do not generate any points.
