Default infantry toughness & small arms fire?

first of all, thank you for this wonderful game.

i am by no means a military expert but just a little curious. is it viable that an iraqi insurgent squad
(in defense) can pick off advancing infantry at 400m. i understand that there is a movment penalty. am i correct to understand that when infanty moves it is assumed that they are at least keeping their heads down.

also..if a unit becomes pinned, does it become more succeptable to enemy fire?

do you guys think small arms fire too accurate? why don't more units under fire "hit dirt" & "take cover"?

just a few questions and thanks again for an fantastic project.

If you move infantry > 1 or 2 hexes, you are not moving tactiacally and will take casualties/be easier to hit - whether from indirect or direct fires.

Move a section 6 hexes down a road, and then a shell hits you, is the weay to lose 4-6 men or get the section vapourised

Already mentioned in the game play notes sectionof the manual. Speed is life is OK for jet pilots, but not if you are a grunt.

Cheers
Andy

Also the rating of your troops will (in this game) determine how well they handle rifle fire. I.E. Green troops don't fair well (which is why I detest senario's where the designer hands you all green troops and a short time to complete the mission)

maybe not 'pick off', but they could and do cause casualties from 400m. I'm sure most insurgent squads are using the 'spray and pray' method of marksmenship, usually followed by 'run like hell'.

If they are causing more casualties than you think realistic or plausable, reduce their experience by ten points, or increase US infantry toughness. If you play with the stats some, you can get the combat modeling dialed in just the way you like it.
