Default Differntiating Hull Sizes

I'm wondering if there is a way to make the hull sizes for various classes race-specific or tech-specific. The rational being that some race might be a bit smaller than average, and thus able to cram more components into a given class of ship, or that a tech might be developed to improve the miniaturization of components, and thus again cram more stuff into less space. It appears that the hull sizes are global, since they are given in a global file, but is there a means to override this file, or otherwise amend its strictures, without making a global change?

Then again, their ships might be a bit smaller than average, to fit their body size...

Nevertheless, you might be able to achieve the desired effect by using CompEnhancement.txt to create a racial "weapon mount" that scales the size of everything down. This would probably require additional racial weapon mounts to replace the regular ones for that race as well.

Sure. Just set up a racial tech requirement on the hull sizes instead of just "ship construction".

If you are interested in cramming more stuff in a given hull size, you can make a mount system that reduces the size of components. You can make mounts have tech requirements; i.e. you can control who gets access to the mounts by research/tech. Some mods do this already.

The Proportions and Devnul mods do the afore mentioned items and would be a great reference for this.

Or the other way round, a bigger than average race who wouldn't fit in a normal ship. You could use mounts but then who would deliberately use a mount which uses more space without any advantage? So either use massive components or have big bonuses for the mounts so people have to use them.

Could be a tradeoff, a bigger race would be better at ground combat and ship capture, but less good in space. So bigger, tougher troops and boarding components to balance it out maybe.

Just a few ideas.
