Anyone read Honor Harrington?
I've been reading a series by David Weber that has been making me play SEIV all the more. It's about Honor Harrington, a space-navy officer. There are some cool ideas in it as well.
The main one is that warp points are destabilized after large ships (especially fleets) move through them. They close after more than one ship moves through them for 17 hours or so.... I wonder if this could be adapted to SEIV? It would be cool if you had to send a fleet through a warp point knowing that you couldn't retreat if you had misjudged. Likewise, if the AI sent a fleet through, one that could actually cause you damage, it couldn't act stupid and run but actually stick around and fight It would also limit expansion a bit.
What do the rest of you think, and please forgive me if this series was mentioned early on... I haven't seen any Posts, but I'm a bit new to the community

Re: Anyone read Honor Harrington?
Jason,
The Honor Harrington series is excellent, and someone a while ago did say that they planned on doing an HH mod. I wish them luck... the HH universe does not map well to the SE IV engine, and never will. Still, you could do something with a somewhat similar flavor.
Despite that, the idea of "limited" warp points is interesting. In HH the warp points were actually a sort of rare occurance, which is what made Baselisk so strategically important. Most ships going from system to system travelled through hyper, but not through a warp point. The warp points created avenues with MUCH faster throughput (eg, reduced time through either end to a limited set of destinations, like SE IV warp points).
The next time I send a bug report to Malfador I'll put in a request to have an option for Warp Points to have "transfer limits" like the satellite and mine laying bays do now. Neat idea.

Re: Anyone read Honor Harrington?
as Lerchey states, there was a bit of discussion before Christmas about a shipset/race in this vein. Not much heard since.
Be nice if it would work, I have read most of the series.

Re: Anyone read Honor Harrington?
Well I've been working on modding the game eversince it game out to the HH univerise, like what was said, a lot of things don't transfer over well, and never will (without some major changes to the engine), but a lot of things do as well.
One thing I seem to find though is that missles and point defense never miss (the PD never missing causes a huge problem, as in HH, most ships have less missles then they do point-defense ...)

Re: Anyone read Honor Harrington?
The harrington series is good, but another series by Weber & Steve White, the latest book is In Death's Ground, is excellent in regards to fighting through and over warp points. example, they eventually develope a missle that can be sent through warp point to attack mines, shipes, bases, etc before fleet emerges, also when fleet does emerge, any mine fields limit area fleet deploys makeing it easier to attack, series has some good ideas to incorporate or devise for SE4

Re: Anyone read Honor Harrington?
Finally someone compares SEIV to the In Death Ground series!! I havent read the Honor Harrington stuff yet, but I have read all of the In Death Ground books and I love them, personally I think that someone could make a pretty good mod using whats in the In Death Ground book. Hopefully anyways, Id love to have a good mod based on the book, with all the warp point asaults, warp capable missiles, and everything, It would rule!! Id make one myself, but I dont have that kind of patience , but Id be really happy to beta test a mod if anyone makes one!
