Leaking Shields?

I keep hearing about these but I have yet to play a mod that uses them, can anyone explain these for me?

Basically, they use the crystalline armor Shields From Damage ability and have low levels of shield generation. So, damage from nearly every shot that hits the ship can do internal damage, and will add new shield points. Leaky shields function like Star Trek shields, where they only block part of the damage, and they are not 100% gone after the first few hits, never to return (assuming you have no shield regenerators).

okay, thanks for that info. Can you suggest any good mods that use this kind of shielding? anyone?

anything a bit smaller? I only have dielup internet service so I would be Online till next week trying to get that mod

They never work right though, so be pepared to for that.
