Default Weapons

I understand that we will not be able to manage weapons. Is that true?

I'm sitting in my study looking at the spine of "A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and USe of Arms and Armor in All Countries and in All Times" by George Cameron Stone and I'm remebering how this book (full of half-truths though it is) helped Tom Proudfoot add so much depth to his RPG titles.

I have preordered, by the way.

Yep that is true. I felt like Coliseum needed a more level playing field in that regard to be very interesting. If your warrior had a huge Halberd and the opponent only had a dagger (or the other way around), the match wouldn't be much fun to watch really.

And thank you much for the pre-order!

I can see that. I guess most sports make an attempt at level equipment.

And with no equipment variance, we are focused on devloping fighters.

I'm looking forward to seeing it!

This isn't a question about weapons, but I was wandering, based on all of the old gladiator films I've seen, if there will be a time when the emperor (or whoever is in charge) will give the infamous thumb up or down, determing if the victor gets to kill the loser or not. Will that be a factor in the game, or something that's been tossed out?

From what I've read and seen on the History channel type shows, that actually is a spinoff from the crowd throwing/thrusting their thumbs down like a dagger or sword (which their thumb represents)over and over. In a way they are cheering on the agressor. They say that the emperor really didn't do this, but it makes for good movies so that's what we see today. As far as whether it's in game or not I've not read so Derek will need to answer that.

AS Brian said, that is kind of a silly convention really, that according to most known records never really happened, and isn't in the game. The warriors are on their own when the fight starts, and may freely injure or kill whoever they have an opportunity to.

The King himself attends occasionally (which gives you a multiplier to your money bonus collected for a match) but is himself a spectator.
