Default Assassinating AI commanders

Here's a question for you guys:

If I have an assassin drop some commander with a large force, does it essentially "pin down" the forces there while they get a new leader? For example, Machaka is massing almost 200 units in a province on my border. If my assassin takes out their head commander fellow, will it stop their attack? Or do just the units on that guy not show up for the battle?

Let's say I have a stack of assassins. And I kill off all the commanders that turn. THEN does it stop their army?

I'm trying to think of a way to paralyze a large force and give my own forces time to form and move out. (non-astral or gate travel-wise).

It should work exactly the same way as if a human player had their leaders killed that way. The only question then is how does the AI split up its troops amongst its leaders.

In other words, I think yes, you will stop the troops assigned to assassinated leaders. This seems to be true in practice, too.

Units that want to move have to be assigned to a commander. If you assiniate that commander (which happens before movement), the units assinged to it will not move. But everyone else will move normally. If you kill all commanders, obviously no units will move.

If you are attacking the province where your assasins are working (assuming your enemy does not order his units to move), any enemy units assigned to an assasinated commander will be in the default position (center of their side of the battlefield, just like units not yet assigned to a commander.
