HELP! SE4Gold - which EXTRAS to add?

just got the Gold in the mail... installed it and added the 1.94(?) patch (latest one I could find, whatever the number)... I then found the 'extras' section of the CD... I DL'd & installed the ModLauncher zip... then the TDM & Pirates/Nomands Mods...

Now I'm totally baffled by what else I should install from this disk (as well as from other sources)...

should I install any of the files that tweek the game itself? ie, weapon mounts, intelligence projects, etc?

will these even have an effect if I play say the TDM mod?

In general, mods are not compatible with each other and can not be used together. There are a few exceptions, such as FQM, though not many.

Well installing the mod launcher was a good start, next you should get FQM Deluxe and all the image mod packs. Then I would recommend mods like: Invasion!(which you can get from the link in my siggy), Adamant, STM.

after you dl'd the ones on the cd, you need to upgrade the mods to their newest Versions. TDM I believe is up to 3.4 and P&N is up there the same as all the rest. You will need these to play PBW games and also to give you a better game in SP play. Most of the upgrades can be found at spaceempires.net or on some of the other links.

Agree with what mac just said: The stuff on the CD is waaaaay out of date. Look up the latest Versions of all the mods, packs and shipsets. I think there's a sticky thread at the top of this forum to help you find them, or you could just go to Fyron's site- that seems to have everything. Check his sig earlier in this thread.

Essential:
-Mod Launcher and/or se4 companion.
-TDM modpack (latest Version).
-As many user races as you can be bothered to download (ALL available races are listed here )

My personal recommendations on top of all that:
-Image mod (unless you're on dialup- huge download)
-FQM
-Adamant and some of the other "new generation" mods.
-Proportions mod
-Devnullmod
-Pirates & Nomads mod
-Neo-expansion pack and proportional response pack (click my banner)

I'd stick with the Modlauncher, the SE4 companion is beta and still not very user friendly, the Modlauncher is very straightforward and easy to use.
