syncronising ship movemnt in Simultaneous
how do you work out how to attack a plannet with 2 diferent speed fleets?
for example with the faster fleet you can make it deture before telling it to attack. but how do you calculate the exact day a fleet will get to a target?

When both fleets are within one turn's move of the planet, you can shift-click them both and then give the order to attack.
For the next turn they will move as if they were in a fleet, and will both arrive together for the combat.

Re: syncronising ship movemnt in Simultaneous
cool!
I didnt realise that worked still in IV...
what about if the fleets are in diferent sectors though?
or trying to attack with an ally - if I set my fleet to follow my allies fleet will it get there the same day?

Intended to be so, but bugged. They should move at the same speed, but I have heard even that is bugged - I don't know myself, as I do not use this suicidal feature for entering combat. They definitely do not move as a single fleet. Problem here is minesweeping that does happen while every individual fleet moves, and if you have only minesweepers in one of your shift-clicked fleets all your other fleets there are in danger.
If you want ships to move together as a single fleet, make a single fleet. Everything else is gambling.

Re: syncronising ship movemnt in Simultaneous
One sure way to do it is shift one of the slow ships to the faster fleet. Both will move at the same speed then. This is not an ideal solution, but if you have time to make the shift it works perfectly.

Re: syncronising ship movemnt in Simultaneous
I've seen this in a previous thread regarding minesweeping in various fleets... What was the consensus?
If I remember correctly it was something like:
put all the minesweepers together (i.e. combine the fleets) before unleashing each fleet separately otherwise you run the risk of a single 'sweeper being overwhelmed while fleet A gets annihilated. Fleet B comes in and the 'sweepers here have a less busy day. If both A + B's mine sweepers had been together initially, a substantial portion of both fleets would have survived.
