Engine destroying weapons
It's been said that in the next patch engine destroying weapons won't pierce shields anymore. So why not weapon destroying weapons, or shield generator destroying weapons, or security station destroying weapons? (Does that Last ability even work???) Why not make it like an ability that can be added - Engines Only or Engines and Shields Only? Or at least a setting in SETTINGS.TXT?

Yes, it works. So does the boarding parties only damage type.

Ed Kolis,
It is a very good idea to have an option to set either skip shields or not for special weapons. it has been discussed before but unfortunately, according to MM there are some programming dificulties to implement it. Pitty.

True. It'd certainly cut the legs out from under a Talisman/Allegience Subverter tactic, if the subverter had to beat down the shields first. If the Religious-Psychic empire gets first move, they'll cut swaths through the enemy ... and only grow themselves LARGER as a result ... !

O.K. I can understand that is is not possible to make it an option in the game settings, if the engines only weapons skip shields or not.
But then include both damage types in the game so the modders can choose which one they like. I am not happy at all that MM deleted the weapon damage type "engines only, skips shield" in the next patch because this will completely change the use of these weapons and we have no possibility to keep them as they have been until now.

They may still skip armor, though. If so, that makes them still fairly powerful. I haven't been using engine-destroying weapons lately. I wonder if anyone in the beta crowd has been and can report on their effects...
