Arctic Intermezzo Battle Report
Date: December 9, 2019
Battle Location: Lomonosov Ridge, North Pole
Battle Type: Danish assault vs. Russian defend
Design by: Tomas
Battle Date: 4 May 2016
Arctic territorial disputes were steadily getting more grave as Russia built silently another small military arctic base on Lomonosov Ridge. Sharp diplomatic exchange between Denmark and Russia led nowhere and Denmark eventually decided to act with military force.
A small detachment of elite Danish troops is transferred to the area to teach Russia a lesson in arctic warfare. Swedish government silently lent Denmark some equipment necessary to conduct the
operation, along with a pair of Bv 206 snow vehicles. The mission is to assault and capture the Russian base.
Play Notes:
Move units in coordination with each other so that at least two or three units can deliver or respond to Russian unit fire.
Design Notes:
Changing the name of the A0 unit from Battalion HQ and the rank of the formation leader either in the Editor or in Scenhack would lend the scenario another nice touch.
We could enhance the look and feel of the gameplay, the map by inverting the unit view color with the map color so that that unit view color is grayed while the default terrain map color is white. However, this is not a scenario design issue but one native to the game itself.
"Not quite. An insignificant difference, perhaps, but I think you'll find the operational characteristics of the M-16 indicate that a bullet will decelerate as much as 40 feet per second per second faster in these climate conditions. It's denser air, you know." David Jones, played by Patrick McGoohan (Ice Station Zebra, cinema 1968)
Mission: The Danish elite platoon will by maneuver and fire, engage and destroy Russian units at the Lomonosov Ridge military base.
Commander’s Intent: We will mount all units onto the BV 206’s for transport to the ridge northeast of the Russian base at Lomonosov Ridge. The assault will occur on foot and in force from the northeast of the base with the snipers leading. Thereafter, the HQ unit and snipers will form a line along the eastern perimeter of the buildings while the arctic patrols will advance and clear one building at a time.
Turn 12: Platoon dismounts along ridge at 49,14.
Turn 19: Platoon HQ with snipers establish defensive line at 47,21.
Turn 31: Platoon closes in on final Russian KO.
Battle ends with a decisive victory.
Danish platoon maneuver to assault position.
