Windows 10 Status and yes there'll be no Win 9.
It's coming and at some point sooner than later some will have to deal with it, though it would seem on the surface of it I don't anticipate any major issues here but, others out here are certainly more qualified then me in that regard. Current Status of Win 10...

I'll leave you to it as I decide between which new NOW gaming PC to buy next.

Pat

Re: Windows 10 Status and yes there'll be no Win 9.
New versions of Windows are like computer viruses. Loose data each time. Sure it's recoverable, but it takes time to learn the new system. I hate it. In fact I hate the whole industry. The computer idustry places machines as being more important than people. What happens when machines have more value than people? It becomes a convenient way for organizations to rip off other people. They know there's nothing you can do about it, so they know you will just learn to it live with it. I don't know who's more colder, the computer industry or the insurance industry.

Windows 10 to be released this Fall (mid) with a free upgrade for 8.1 users within whatever grandfathered window MS uses to determine who gets the free upgrade.

Pat

I'm very happy with 8.1. Wouldn't want to go back to XP at all

I can understand that, but myself XP is the newest I've ever used.
I suspect if I ever buy a completely new pc that might change.

That's how I ended up with 8.0 then 8.1. It took a week or so to get used to but overall I'm happy with it especially as 8.1 keeps me in desktop (and it runs the game without drama )

Re: Windows 10 Status and yes there'll be no Win 9.
D-Day for MS 10 has been moved up now for a 29 July release. So for those that haven't kept up here's the latest...
1. 5 earlier questions asked but, relevant...

2. What it does (At least for now.) do...

3. The "Party Line"...

4. Who can get it and how...
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/techno...?ocid=win10msn
5. Finally media releases...

Well I leave it to you, my new computer just arrived last week still in the box waiting on my PNY USB 2.O/3.0 Flash drive and software less COOLERMASTER CM STORM OCTANE Mouse/Keyboard Combo. I'm sure I'll have my own adventures transferring files from XP to 8.1 and tinkering with the new machine. Say a prayer for me, I'll need it after all "I are Submariner"!
I'll be looking in to see how you brave folks handle the transition.
This should do it until it gets released info wise. About the rumors that this might be MS's last OS (Supplemented by continuous updates.) I don't know however, you can clearly see the direction it's taking.
Regards,
Pat

Re: Windows 10 Status and yes there'll be no Win 9.
Yep - a second windows start menu icon has just appeared on my 8.1 task-bar that wants me to sign up for 10 whenever it arrives. Could not get rid of it - so dragged it to the little pop up box thing that has the "cloud" icon in it.
Since I have a year or so from then to upgrade for free, I'll happily leave any upgrading to the early adopters, and then see what reaction these lemmings have to it.
In especial - I want to know precisely what applications the 10 "upgrade" deems incompatible - as apparently it wipes things it does not like.. and also I want to know if the promised "roll-back" option works, and does such a roll-back restore the applications it nuked as being windows 10 incompatible.
I'll also want a windows 10 version of start8 to restore the start menu to a proper XP look and feel - 10 apparently just puts up a zillion tonka-toy kindergarten type Metro Tiles. Not interested in anything Metro - this is a PC, not a phone.
The laptop is windows 7 so I'll probably update it first, if the reports are favourable.

Re: Windows 10 Status and yes there'll be no Win 9.
It used to be that the rule of thumb for Microsoft OSes was to wait for the first service pack before upgrading.
Nowadays; I'd wait about 30-45 days. Let there be many early adopters to find out the flaws the beta test army missed.
