Crafting question
When multiple players are trying to craft the same artifact on the same turn, how is the "winner" determined? Is it random or is there some other factor?

Re: Crafting question
Units have an ID number that determines the order in which they appear on screen and act in battle. Each turn the game chooses either the beginning or end of this order and forging proceeds from there. If two or more units are forging the same unique item the first one in that turn's sequence will succeed in forging the item.
If you are interested in testing this have three commanders forge the same unique item. You'll notice the middle commander in the sequence never succeeds in forging the item. Also, the order in which you receive the messages about the other two failing will tell you if that turn's forging began from the beginning or end of the unit sequence.
I know Calahan, for one, has assigned two forgers (one at the high end of the order and the other at the low end) for crucial items in order to cover his bases. This obviously can be pricy but some unique items are game changing and worth the cost, especially because competitive players will reach Constr. 8 in close proximity, making every turn count.

Re: Crafting question
Thanks for the information Valerius. I'm assuming the same method is used for remote attacks spells too, so if you're going to cast Blizzard in a particular province, it might be a good idea to cast Wolven Winter with a low and high ID commander.
Is there a way to determine the IDs of the commanders without moving them around to find their relative rankings to each other?

Re: Crafting question
There was something bothering me about the wolven winter/murdering winter combo you mention because I know that a while back I tested wolven winter with teleporting SCs and found no temp shift had taken place by the time the SCs arrived, which also made me wonder about using it to shift temp before murdering winter hits (but I don't remember if I ever tested that).
In any case, while searching on that topic I found a thread that addresses the issue as well as the question of unit IDs:

Re: Crafting question
By the end of
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showp...8&postcount=19
there is still no observation on whether you can determine unit order in-game.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't it indeed the case that when you view your leaders in Army Setup view, they are at least ordered lowest to highest? I know that does not give exact number, and not great for mages forging if they are in different provinces (unless they are near and Shift-Y works), but I just want to verify my understanding?

Re: Crafting question
Yeah, the general consensus is that commander selection and army selection lists the commanders from low nrs to high. (That is why most pretenders are at the top, as they arrive early).
