Eater of Dreams
I just had something happened to me I've never had happen. An "eater of Dreams" launched a successful assassination on my Arch Devil Morgoth in my capitol. This thing is seriously bad ***! An astral horror on steroids and amphetamines. It ate Morgoth quickly even though he was kitted out (sword of swiftness, BS tower shield, BS helm, BS Full Plate, Boots of the Messanger, Pendant of Luck, and an amulet of magic resistance.) Granted he was my Ashciac Record caster so he had no combat orders and just spammed control at the Eater of Dreams.
Playing Himnon on a full size Glory of the Gods map with all the nations (all ages mod and a flag mod) on impossible. Have 9 capitols.
Last turn I did cast an Astral Corruption (641 blood slaves) and Morgoth was doing an Ashciac record. Did he fall victim to my Astral Corruption? Otherwise how else do you get an Eater of Dreams.
I've been playing this game for years now and have never seen an Eater of Dreams. Granted I play against the computer so unless I do it I rarely see it.

Re: Eater of Dreams
i don't know the answer to any of your questions, but if you have played SP this long, you should try multi.
if you are interested, pm me. i will help you. SP pales in comparison to MP.

Re: Eater of Dreams
I don't recall an Eater of Dreams but you cast Astral Corruption and then you cast an Astral spell--that's just asking for bad things to happen to your caster.

Eater of Dreams is a doom horror, one of a couple of super-horrors that sometimes attack if you have a lot of horror marks. Im not sure what other factors are involved, but as Loren said, casting non-blood spells under astral corruption does risk provoking a horror attack, and the wiki says that the chance is proportional to the amount of gems used. Ashciac record uses a lot of gems, so that is probably what happened.
The only other way to see doom horrors is to wish for them specifically, or for a doom horror (to get a random one). They have a 50% chance of attacking you when you wish for them, though, and they can only be controlled for a few turns even if they don't, so you don't see too many people wishing for them.

The Doom Horror that appears is random even when you wish for a specific one.

There's at least yet another one: I've had a Starspawn priest met the same Eater of Dreams on his way back from the Void, although he wasn't horror marked (not even insane at the time.)
He was richly rewarded for the encounter: +1 astral skill, and +35 insanity (insanity usually comes in much smaller increments), which once again proves that Doom Horrors are indeed... well, very special.

This is one of the effects of being lost in space and time and not from encountering a doom horror.

Re: Eater of Dreams
Under Astral Corruption random horror attacks happen. I even had a pretender (without marks) get munched by a doom horror once. And he was not even casting spells at that time.

Re: Eater of Dreams
I just got this beauty current turn in a game, never seen it before:

My pretender was horror marked. A little one came some turns ago, got kicked, then big daddy knocked the door. Seems they are brothers with Eater as for the lore :P.
