OT-New Computer needs new games
As some of you might know I have gained a new system at home.
intel 2 gig with an asus v8200 64meg delux.
All the bells and wistles etc.../
Only problem is that I have nothing really to test it out with.
Last games I purchased was SEIV , homeworld and BG2.
So I was looking for some ideas on some games to purchase to test this system.
So far I have come up with Shogun Total war. Any other suggestions?

Re: OT-New Computer needs new games
shogun is fun, but a bit out of date technology wise. if you are interested in good games instead of zippy 3d graphics, Trade Empires is one of the best. also, i hear good things about europa universalis. Project Eden looks sweet, and with sharp graphics as well. There is a new crop of tactical shooters out if thats your bag, basically you can take your pick from the latest in the rainbow-six / IGI / etc breed of things. i know that those are not all true 'tactical games' but most of them try pretty hard.
black and white is fun for about a month if you have not played it.. graphics are still competative with the new stuff thats rolling out. there is a new starwars game, which is a Age of Empires clone, which is a command and conquer clone, which is a warcraft clone, which is a Dune2 clone, so i dont really give a **** about that, but some people like those things. I think there is some new 3D space RTS game that came out after homeworld 2, but i forget what its called. I also think there is some sweet 3d Space based capital ship combat sim, but i forget what that one is called too.

Re: OT-New Computer needs new games
Puke could the battleship game you are thinking of be battlecruiser: Millenium. If so I would suggest not buying it. While the game looks good the company that makes it has a history of faulty software. I bought Battlecruiser 3000AD and it was so faulty it crashed while trying to run the intro movie. The company finally released a patch, I downloaded it and found the game then crashed when I attempted to start a new game. Many people have complained about the game series.

Re: OT-New Computer needs new games
Puke probably is refering to Independance War 2. Which is supposed to be a KICK ___ game. However, it is also supposed to have a rather steep learning curve. Oh well. I wish I had a system that would play it.....

Re: OT-New Computer needs new games
If you really want to test out your machine, I hear Max Payne is the way to go. Sure, it is a first person shooter, but you don't buy a machine like you have to play strategy games.
If you are getting Shogun Total War (good game, but crashed on my machine unless I did the full instilation) you should get the Mongal Horde add on. I think they lifted the graphics up a step or two, as well as adding lots of units. However, it isn't going to push your machine, my old 450 handled it with ease.
I am jealous of your machine, but I made my choice. Instead of getting one great new machine, I bought two older ones for about the same price and now have a three machine network in the house. Living in Kenya places any form of network play besides LAN out of reach, so I chose to do it at home.
Have fun!
