Glamour counter
I'm looking for counters to glamour that are not far up the research tree and based mostly on N. How about Swarm/Sleep Cloud/Poison Cloud to pin them down and knock glamour off, and archers/slingers to kill them?
Thanks

Re: Glamour counter
I'll cast "channel IRC veterans"
[Maerlande]
There are some tricks
The worst part isn't killing them, It's catching them
Regarding gear:
Demon whip rocks and so does the poison staff, because it has area of effect, which should cancel glamour.
I used Khans with demon whips
But if you have Poison Resist commanders I'd use the snake bladder, put it on cheap commanders
Sombrero adds, Harvest blade to spam entangle. (Which also can work later on lone SC, entangle stops it in place).
[Sombrero]
Oh it's not too hard.
Cloud spells.
Immobilisation spells. Like bonds of fire. Poison cloud works.
Sleep and sleep cloud don't. Because glamour dudes have high mr.
But tangle vines, Poison cloud, Swarm Those work.
Maerlande, adds Breath of dragon should work too.
[Maerlande]
If you have water numbness should work, or stellar cascades if you have S. Earth meld, should work if you have E. If you have F+E or W use brands. For the AOE.
[Trumanator, Sombrero]
Spam archers, since glamour does nothing to projectiles and most glamour troops have **** shields.
So, cheap massed missile troops.
[Sombrero]
Entangle works, 5 fat each casting, and keeps something stuck for good.
[Sombrero, Trumanator]
Blowpipes indies would work.
They do poison based fatigue damage.
They're actually pretty nasty when used by a player.
They just get a bad rap because they suck at defending indy provinces.
[Sombrero]
If they're poison resist?
Well since we're limited to N magic,...
You're kinda out of options.
[Calawank]
Tell the guy fighting those glamour troops to make sure he actually has troops himself to kill them. Since all too often I've seen player turn up to fight glamour/tramplers with a load of mages to cast tangle or earth meld, but then no real troop to kill them while they''ve been stopped
[QM]
Suggest using flamewars.
[Soyweiser]
Wow... that channel spell feels wierd... all these voices talking at once.
So to recap.
Use poison if they have no resistance. Area of attack spells so you bypass glamour. Try to root them in place with different nature spells. Shoot them if their shields suck. Bonus if you can use blowpipes because these also put them asleep. Don't use anything that is resistible by magic.
Next time you could also post your question in the other forum. As long as you have a reasonable question like this, you will get a reasonable answer.

Hurts like a mother****er. Trust me, you do not want Sombre in your head. Or anywhere else for that matter.
Edit: whooo mother with a lot of experience. Hall of fame for sure.

Re: Glamour counter
Swarm is so-so - the bugs don't have enough skill to pop 20+ defense while Glamoured thugs certainly can pop one or two squares worth of bugs per turn.
Poison cloud I can vouch pops it, but it's usually not enough to kill them (and unless you're using undead, is very annoying to use with troops).
Breath of the Dragon has real short range for a nuke, even more so for a DoT.
If you have Growth, then vine arrows (both the spell and the item) and Entanglement are excellent options, since neither Vans nor their Huskarl cohorts have particularly notable strength. Pop glamour and nix their high def in one go.
All in all though, a gaggle of shortbows is generally all you really need to solve the Glamour problem itself. Once that's done, any anti-thug tactics work.

Re: Glamour counter
Why so complicated answers, when the answer is very simple? Massed slingers and/or archers is the simple answer. No matter if the target have shields or not, 100 slingshots per will be the solution

QFT(quoted for truth for those of you unfamiliar with internet language). since quite a few patches ago glamour stopped protecting from missiles, only melee. so basically any mass of missile units, slingers being the cheapest, completely screws up glamour troops. this actually makes glamour troops pretty useless as slingers and other missile troops are easily found in various forms(as indies) and many nations can also recruit them nationally, which makes glamour protection pretty obsolete.

Re: Glamour counter
Except in MP where archer decoy strategy will make it harder to work reliably. Also Tir na n'Og and Vanheim get easy access to Arrow Fend or Storm

Re: Glamour counter
by the time they get arrow fend and storm you should already have plenty of magic of your own. archer decoys don't neutralize archers, just makes it harder for them. but even with archer decoys, there are ways around it with smart scripting of your own. besides, your main problem with Vanheim and TNN should be glamour cavalry and thugs, not infantry, so archer decoys are rather moot as neither of them have horse archers that will be targeted by "fire cavalry" script.

Re: Glamour counter
Try some tramplers. Ethereal elephants, for example.
