Insanity vs. Feeble Minded
While reading through various threads, it's my understand that the Black Bow of Botulf causes Feeble Minded, even though its description says, "...this dark bow will strike those hit by its deadly arrows with insanity." But then other threads mention that insane commanders can still cast spells, which wouldn't be possible if Insanity = Feeble Minded, since Feeble Minded reduces all magic paths to 0. So, if they are different ailments, what happens to a commander that's insane?

Re: Insanity vs. Feeble Minded
Insane just means that the commander has a chance of doing random things and not listening to your commands. It's pretty much identical to the Shattered Soul of tartarians, except that insanity can't break labs/temples if I recall correctly, whereas shattered soul can.
Easiest way to see insane commanders is to play with/against LA R'lyeh, their dominion causes it to most commanders in the game.

Re: Insanity vs. Feeble Minded
The Black Bow predates the introduction of insanity, so the description may no longer be as clear as it should be.
You get insanity (mostly?) from LA R'lyeh dominion. Insane commanders have a percentage chance each turn to do something random instead of taking your orders.

R'lyeh's dominion causes insanity in enemy commanders?
I've found the first reason to play R'lyeh, I think.

Re: Insanity vs. Feeble Minded
It causes insanity in your own commanders too, who are far more likely to be spending time in dominion. Though many of them have a degree of resistance to the effect.
LA Rlyeh is an interesting concept, but to most people it isn't a great deal of fun. It is by far the most micro intensive nation.

Re: Insanity vs. Feeble Minded
I like la-rlyeh quite a lot. But as sombre says the micromanagement is extreme. One of the most crucial questions is how you kill off HORDES of water only spawns.
