Default North Korean bikers

I would like to make a suggestion for the North Korean OOB (obat19): add a motorcycle unit for the Korean War period.

I remember reading somewhere that the North Koreans used motorcycle troops for recon. That would make sense because their mentors – the Soviets – also used them for that purpose.

North Korean motorcycle troops during the Korean War:

The bikes look like Soviet M-72s. They were armed with 7.62mm DP LMGs (obat19/ Weapon 010). A North Korean motorcycle unit in WinSPMBT would be very similar to the Soviet motorcycle sections in WinSPWW2 (e.g. spob11/ Unit 306).

Osprey’s Men-At-Arms Series 174: The Korean War 1950-53 states that the North Korean KPA had a motorcycle regiment – with 3,500 men - at the start of the war: the 603rd Motorcycle Reconnaissance Regt. When I ‘googled’ it I found this article which briefly mentions the North Korean use of motorcycles during the war.

Thanks Don.

Thinking about motorcycles in general, I suspect that a few more motorcycle units could be added to winspmbt.

Communist bikers

It is possible, for example, that motorcycle units are missing from a few Communist bloc OOBs. There are motorcycle units in the East German (i.e. obat36/ Unit 239) and Russian OOBs, but some other Warsaw Pact countries may need them as well. Czechoslovakia, for example. A 1960s photo of Czechoslovak M-72s:

Poland may be another example. Some photos of Polish M-72s:

Taliban bikers

In more recent times the motorcycle has been used by the Taliban (obat22). They’ve been used by groups of fighters and by scouts.

I added the KLR motorcycle to my USMC OOB.
Sure it's just a messenger vehicle not a combat one, but for company size operations they make a fun little scout vehicle and I "needed" one for an ambush scenario I was working on.
