Default Old Multiplayer Campaign - Blast from the past!

Wow! I was researching some of the old multiplayer tournaments I had run to see what format was better suited to actually have it run through to the end. During that research I came across this one I had run all the way back from 1998-2000 and it seems, simplistic is good;

I even found most of the files for it on one of my old hard drives.

Finnish 3rd Airborne Regiment. Wild things.

How long was the total duration of the campaign and did it actually finish? I'd imagine that getting the players to commit for such a long time can be a problem.

It did finish. I don't remember the time frame. I think it was like 12-14 months. Was like 6-8 rounds, about 45-60 days per round. Was the 1st attempt and I remember it seemed to take forever for turns to complete. I think we went threw players left and right, some made the distance but many only lasted about 2-3 turns each. Some left and came back.

Yeah, I had to put my foot down and name the units for the campaign myself cause the players wanted to name their own and it was starting to get "really" weird.

Going back through the notes for my earlier campaigns, I am finding that players tend to be more involved long term if they are given more design input and help with the development of the campaign idea. This seems to work better than me having everything for the game completely laid out in advance and THEN asking people to sign up.

Another one that was successful and based on a make believe situation was the Island Civil War: SPMBT. It was pretty small and seemed to flow pretty well.

But the one I consider the best of the best was the RED SNOW - SPWAWH2Hfr CAMPAIGN one. It would not have been possible if it were not for the players in this one, especially the overall commanders who kept on me (and their teams) to "move things along".
