Default torpedoes vs. missiles?

What is the advantage of torpedoes over missiles?

Missiles are a bit slower, but have good damage resistance and do a bit more damage per kT of size. Torpedoes travel faster and tend to fare a bit better against PD, while doing a bit less damage.

Do torpedoes work better under some circumstances? They sound weaker, yet require military science 2...!

Plasma missiles ftw.

Btw, why are plasma missiles under a seperate tech tree? Why isn't it part of the missile tech tree?

Because CSM damage remains constant while PM damage drops off with distance, because the CSM uses a nuclear warhead while the PM has an unstable plasma core, and because of balance. Getting both CSMs and PMs from one tech tree would give you two weapons for the tech price of one.

If you're just comparing Torpedoes to CSMs, then almost all the torpedoes available are better than them.

Plasma Missiles hold an advantage versus Graviton Hellbores in most cases.
